# Overview Not a full list, but my starting point for camping. Plus I've added a few things that I don't use, but others may want when camping. So if we're camping together, don't assume I have everything on this list! [REI's Family Camping](https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/family-camping-checklist.html) is a good reference as well! ## Clothes[^3] - [ ] Underwear - [ ] Socks - [ ] Shorts / Pants - [ ] Shirts - [ ] Rain Coat[^2] - [ ] Jacket - [ ] Hiking Shoes - [ ] Sandals - [ ] Swimsuit - [ ] Hat ## Weather Dependent Clothes - [ ] Warm Hat - [ ] Gloves - [ ] Winter Coat - [ ] Rain Pants ## Toiletries - [ ] Chapstick - [ ] Floss - [ ] Toothbrush - [ ] Toothpaste - [ ] Mouthwash - [ ] Conditioner - [ ] Soap - [ ] Shampoo - [ ] Nail Cutter - [ ] Nail File - [ ] Brush/Comb - [ ] Sun Screen - [ ] Meds ## Sleeping - [ ] Tent - [ ] Ground Cloth - [ ] Rain Fly - [ ] Stakes - [ ] Hammock - [ ] Hammock Straps - [ ] Rain Fly - [ ] Bug Net - [ ] Pillow - [ ] Sleeping Pad - [ ] Sleeping Bag - [ ] Blanket ## Camp Specific Misc - [ ] Pocket Knife - [ ] Flashlight - [ ] Headlamp - [ ] Camp Chair - [ ] Hatchet - [ ] First Aid Kit - [ ] Tick Key - [ ] Sunglasses - [ ] Bug Spray - [ ] Repair Patches - [ ] Paracord - [ ] Lantern / Area Light - [ ] Frisbee - [ ] Picnic Blanket - [ ] Radios ## Miscellaneous - [ ] Portable Battery - [ ] Earplugs - [ ] Cash for Emergencies and Small Stores - [ ] Notebook - [ ] Pencil - [ ] Sharpie - [ ] Headphones - [ ] Board Game? - [ ] Book ## Food This one in particular is dependent on trip length and type. Yeah, maybe. But also it's real nice to not be woken up by a woodland critter looking for a snack. - Lookup the area you're in, and/or ask an experienced friend for how to store your food on your trip! ## Footnotes [^1]: I minimize stuff to carry and clean when camping. So you may want a plate rather than just a bowl. Or a fork and spoon rather than a spork! [^2]: Always have rain gear. It's small, it's light, just always have it on you, in case you need it. [^3]: Avoid Cotton Clothes! Use merino wool or quick-drying synthetics where possible!
