# Overview
Not a full list, but my starting point for camping. Plus I've added a few things that I don't use, but others may want when camping. So if we're camping together, don't assume I have everything on this list!
[REI's Family Camping](https://www.rei.com/learn/expert-advice/family-camping-checklist.html) is a good reference as well!

## Reminders / Tips
### Download Offline Map
- In [Google Maps](https://support.google.com/maps/answer/6291838?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid) or whatever you use for navigation
### ***Don't Keep Food in Your Tent***
- Store smellable things in a bear bag, bear bin, or in a car unless you want the chance of surprise critter visits.
- Will you probably be fine at popular camping sites? Yeah, maybe. But also it's real nice to not be woken up by a woodland critter looking for a snack.
- Lookup the area you're in, and/or ask an experienced friend for how to store your food on your trip!
## Footnotes
[^1]: I minimize stuff to carry and clean when camping. So you may want a plate rather than just a bowl. Or a fork and spoon rather than a spork!
[^2]: Always have rain gear. It's small, it's light, just always have it on you, in case you need it.
[^3]: Avoid Cotton Clothes! Use merino wool or quick-drying synthetics where possible!
